State of Alaska statute - Title 18. HEALTH, SAFETY, AND HOUSING Chapter 18.60. SAFETY 395 Licensing of Boiler Operators - Fees (18.60.395)
The State of Alaska does not require a Boilers License Reference paragraph 18.60.395 (c) ...does not require a person to be licensed in order to be a boiler operator.
If a person wants to be licensed then a notarized application, $200.00 application fee, and experience verification are required for each of the four license classes. You must take and pass an exam with a 70 percent or higher.
The State of Alaska does require that a Boilers License Operator receive a Certificate of Fitness.
Alaska Boiler Operator Licenses:
Boiler Operator 1st Class: Unlimited BHP (Boiler Horsepower)
Boiler Operator 2nd Class: Can operate boiler with capacity not to exceed 100,000 pounds of steam an hour or 100,000,000 British thermal units per hour for high temperature or high pressure water boilers.
Boiler Operator 3rd Class: Can operate boiler with capacity not to exceed 3,500 pounds of steam an hour or 3,500,000 British thermal units per hour for high temperature or high pressure water boilers.
Boiler Operator 4th Class also called Fireman - Apprentice.
Here are the boiler operators qualification for the State of Alaska
Boiler Operator Certificate of Fitness: 1st Class: Requires 12 months’ experience with a 2nd class license or 24 months experience in boiler operation, maintenance, or repair of boilers in the size range of 3,500 to 100,000 pounds of steam per hour. Must pass test.
Boiler Operator Certificate of Fitness: 2nd Class: Requires six months’ experience with a 3rd class license or 12 months experience in boiler operation, maintenance, or repair of boilers in the size range of 3,500 to 100,000 pounds of steam per hour or greater. Must pass test.
Boiler Operator Certificate of Fitness: 3rd Class: 40 hours classroom training and three months experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of boilers while holding a Boiler 4th class or six (6) months experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of boilers. Must pass test.
Boiler Operator Certificate of Fitness: 4th Class: No experience required. Must pass test.
Neither, Counties or Municipalities require licensed operators.
